The ViewHull Review
A popular bar for its live music and DJ nights — as well as sport — with a cool patio at the back.
The Venue
A regular pub which has turned into a smart, open-plan bar and live music venue to boot, The Linnet And Lark is sleek and spacious.
Tables and chairs cover the stone patio out the front, and indoors there are patterned black walls, flagstones on the floor, a wood-panelled mirrored bar and colourful modern-art panels on the walls.
There’s exposed brickwork too, and around half a dozen big plasma screens which means it’s great to watch sport (soon you’ll be able to watch every Hull City game as they are installing a new satellite system).
The DJ plays rare soul, Motown and Stax (Motown's rival record label) on Saturdays and there’s live music here every Tuesday.
Most of Hull’s up-and-coming bands have performed here including The Favours, The Paddingtons (who have playedhere a few times) and The Talks. Right out at the back is a smart patio with a pergola surrounded by latticed wood and enclosed by bamboo screens.
The People
There’s a mixed crowd in here depending on what’s happening. You get a casual business set in the day and the TV foreign channels mean there’s a whole range of sports on offer.
It would be fair to say this is a popular bar with students, especially when the Linnet and Lark host 'The Sesh' bands' night. Students flock to it to mosh about and listen to their mates, and it's one of the best band nights in the city.
The Food and Drink
On tap you’ve got Carling, Foster, Strongbow, Guinness, Marstons Pedigree, Marston’s Old Empire and Smooth, and in bottles there’s, Staropramen, Sol, Beck’s, Bulmers and Budweiser. Wine is from £9.95 to £10.95 a bottle and there’s no food menu.
The Last Word
A modern and well-maintained pub which effortlessly satisfies the needs of both sports and music fans.
